My name is Geoff Watt, I am the son of Hec Watt and Leah Watt, I was born in 1945 in the northern rivers of NSW, and I lived in this area of the country up until my family moved to Sydney in the 1950’s. Hec Watt and Leah Watt became very successful greyhound trainers during the 1960’s and 70’s; they trained many champions during that period of time and I believe that they were one of the most successful training combinations in the history of the sport. Their most prominent and successful champion being Zoom Top, Zoom Top I believe was the greatest all distance champion that Australian greyhound racing fans have ever seen. You will find Zoom Top’s full racing form is included in my story, Sports Or Rorts?

As a teenager I became very interested in the sport of greyhound racing, this was due to my parent’s success as greyhound trainers, as well as the success of Zoom Top and her litter brothers and sisters. Actually Zoom Top was my selection from the litter of pups my parents had bred; at the time of their whelping each member of our family had selected a pup of their choice.

Due to the success of Hec Watt and Leah Watt with their team of racing greyhounds, coupled with the success of Zoom Top, I became hooked on the sport. My wife and I built a beautiful home and training complex on the outskirts of Sydney and within a short time we were training winners on the major city tracks. It only took us two years to become leading trainers within the sport of greyhound racing and in 1971 I became the leading trainer in Sydney I won the New South Wales trainers premiership for that year.

Our training complex was producing enormous amount of success within the industry and we were producing some real champions, champions such as Woolley Wilson, Benny McGrath, Top Saba, Top-Em-All and many others. We felt that our future within the greyhound industry was secure and that I could follow in my parent’s footsteps, how wrong we were; even in this early stage of my career people in control of the industry were working to remove us from the sport. It is this removal process that my story Sports Or Rorts is about.

My story is about the methods that I believe are used to control training facilities, football teams and athletes of all kind. After reading my story you will understand the many methods being used to control sport and you will also see how no action is taken in relation to serious complaints; yet in all of our years in the racing industry we were never dishonest in our sport and we always looked after the interest of the owners of the animals in our care, yet we were banished from the sport and never allowed to explain our situation to the racing public Sports Or Rorts is that explanation.

Sports Or Rorts is a deliberate question to our authorities and our government officials
